The story behind this print
Ayta Al Jabal
There are two villages in South Lebanon that carry the name Ayta: Ayta Al Shaab and Ayta Al Jabal. This artwork belongs to Ayta Al Jabal.
It began with Fatima, a mother from Bint Jbeil whose husband comes from Ayta Al Jabal.
She wanted their children to grow up with a connection to both sides of their roots, so she commissioned two artworks: one of her hometown, Bint Jbeil, and another of their father's village, Ayta Al Jabal.
Inspired by a distant aerial view, this artwork captures the village in warm, earthy browns, with tightly gathered houses rendered in rough, sketch-like lines. The imperfect shapes and closely nestled rooftops convey the coziness of a village that feels like home.
For Fatima, these weren't simply two beautiful prints to hang on a wall. They were a way to give her children something of where they come from.
Two villages. Two sides of their story. One family.
And a little piece of Lebanon for the next generation to carry forward.
