The story behind this print

Borj Rahal

Some places are more than the land we come from. They are the land we hope our children will always remember.

Borj Rahal is one of those places for me.

Near the Qasmieh River in South Lebanon, where the Litani flows toward the Mediterranean, Borj Rahal is a village rooted in the land and in the people who call it home. Citrus groves and farmland have shaped its landscape for generations.

One account traces its name to Borj Rahalihim, recalling travelers who moved across the South and stopped near the river to pitch their tents and rest. I love that image. A place that began as somewhere to rest becoming somewhere generations would never want to leave.

The people of Borj Rahal are known for their loyalty to one another, their love of life, and their deep attachment to the land. Farming is woven into the village's identity. Families have tended its fields and orchards for generations, passing down not only the land but also the love of caring for it.

This print is personal.

Look closely and you'll find part of our home in Lebanon, overlooking the village. I created this artwork in honor of my daughters, Julia, Angelina, and Catalina, so they would always know this view and the place that is part of their story.

I hope that wherever life takes them, they will carry Borj Rahal with them. Its land, its people, and the love that binds them together.

Because we may leave the village, but the village never leaves us.
