The story behind this print
Al Housh
Al Housh was created in honor of my mother and the view she once woke up to every morning from her balcony at breakfast. From the ninth floor of a special ten story building in this suburb of Sour, the whole island of Tyre opened before her, with Naqoura to the south and Jabal Amel to the north. We used to say nothing could beat our view. During the 2025 sixty six day war on Lebanon, our building was struck and brought down, taking with it the balcony, my mother’s wedding dress, our baby pictures, and the home she had just finished paying for. To bring her some solace, I recreated the scenery from that balcony so she could place it in her kitchen here in Dearborn. Al Housh is not only our story, it is the story of many families who left the border villages, worked hard, built a better life, and still carry home inside them.
