The story behind this print
Al Hermel
Some places hold centuries of history, yet still leave us with questions.
Al Hermel is one of them.
This artwork was inspired by a photograph taken by Rawad Mansour, capturing Qamou El Hermel, also known as the Pyramid of Hermel, one of the region's most recognizable landmarks.
Rawad shared that before photographing a place, he likes to learn a little about its history. For this particular image, he drew inspiration from an old photograph preserved in the Library of Congress.
What fascinated him was how much of Qamou El Hermel's history remains a mystery.
At Maraseel, we transformed his photograph into a watercolor-inspired digital artwork, bringing together the landmark, the surrounding landscape, and Arabic calligraphy.
A collaboration between photography and art, honoring a place whose history continues to invite curiosity.
Original photography by Rawad Mansour.
